Skill Scotland - Volunteering

Skill Scotland runs a volunteer scheme called ‘Disability Equality for Volunteering in Scotland’. It is a 3-year project funded by the Unemployed Voluntary Action Fund (UVAF) and it commenced at the beginning of June 2000.

This project aims to provide opportunities and support for disabled people to volunteer for Skill Scotland with the aim of developing their work based skills and improving their employment prospects. There is always more work to be done than can be accomplished by our permanent staff. Volunteers make a valuble contribution to our work and help us to achieve more with our limited resources.

While you are volunteering with us there are opportunities to develop skills within a major national charity, gain experience in the area of work that interests you and we can provide you with references for potential employers. Expenses for travel and lunch are reimbursed on a daily basis.

Volunteer opportunities arise in many areas of our work, depending on your interests and skills. Options include fundraising, research projects and administrative tasks. As an organisation seeking to represent the interest of people with disabilities and learning difficulties, Skill seeks to promote equal opportunities and combat discrimination, which people face because of disability, ethnic origin, race colour, nationality or gender.

We actively encourage individuals with disabilities to volunteer, and will interview all potential volunteers who declare a disability.

Skill Scotland is based at Norton Park in Edinburgh and our premises are fully accessible.
